Organizing Our Communities for Peace
The VFP Zinn Fund committee will award up to $3,000 this year to support the development of grass roots projects that organize their communities to achieve greater peace and justice. In keeping with the national VFP strategic plan, we are looking for proposals that accomplish four objectives:
- Initiate a project that promotes a constructive solution to a particular issue of peace and justice,
- Build networks to advocate that solution,
- Mobilize the public to actively support that solution,
- And to achieve changes in policies and practices that result in greater peace and justice.
The Zinn Fund committee is calling for proposals from local VFP chapters for projects that meet these objectives. While other initiatives will be considered, priority will be given to projects that address the following national initiative:
- Reallocate military spending to support the well-being of American people.
If your chapter is considering developing a project, please submit a letter of intent to apply for a Zinn Fund grant by June 8 to ZinnFund@verteransforpeace.org. The letter of intent include a short statement of:
- What is the specific issue that you plan to address?
- What is the solution to the problem that you will pose to your community?
Start now discussing with your chapter what you want to accomplish with your project and how you will achieve these results!
Only applicants who submit an letter of intent will be considered for a grant, as the Zinn Fund Committee plans to work with local chapters over the summer in developing their projects and final proposals for the September review period.
Before submitting a letter of intent to apply for a Zinn Fund grant, interested applicants should first examine the Zinn Fund Guidelines for Projects (PDF). Note that the Zinn Fund is intended to support the development of new projects which will be self-sustaining.
