Executive Director Job Description
Veterans For Peace is a 501(c)(3) international organization with 2,500 members and 150 chapters across the United States, Vietnam, Mexico, Ireland and Spain.
Our statement of purpose is: “We, as military veterans, do hereby affirm our greater responsibility to serve the cause of world peace. To this end we will work with others both nationally and internationally.”
We are seeking an Executive Director with management capabilities and experience to direct and work with the national office staff which includes business manager, director of special projects, communications director, membership coordinator, Golden Rule peace boat manager, and VFP Editor. The Executive Director reports to the President/Chairperson of the National VFP Board of Directors.
This position requires leadership skills, initiative, judgment and knowledge of the organization.
Specific tasks include:
1) Managing the annual budget, including proposing annual budgets and monitoring the budget, with monthly reports to the ExComm and National Board.
2) Overseeing communication among Board members and between Board and staff.
3) Working with the VFP membership to provide VFP chapters with updated information about the projects of individual chapters and responding to individual and chapter inquiries.
4) Working with the communications director on postings to social media and press statements.
5) Overseeing the building of, and national office engagement with, VFP membership;
6) Working with members of the National Board in fund raising.
Qualifications include experience with: veterans and veteran organizations; internal organizational communications and public relations, social media, writing public statements and news releases; working collaboratively with a board; managing spreadsheets, Google documents and donor management software.
Compensation: $65K to $80K. Preference will be given to those with veteran status.
