It is past time to end this shameful episode by closing GITMO now. Join us to learn from outstanding speakers with first-hand experience. We will learn how to take action to shut it down and why that must happen now!
SPEAKERS
- Capt. James Yee, a Muslim chaplain at Guantanamo, was imprisoned himself for his service. He wrote For God & Country: Faith & Patriotism under Fire
- Andy Worthington, a historian, investigative journalist and documentarian, wrote The Guantánamo Files: The Stories of the 774 Detainees in America's Illegal Prison
- Mansoor Adayfi was released from Guantanamo in 2016. His memoir, Don't Forget Us Here: Lost and Found at Guantanamo, will be released in August
BACKGROUND
For 19 years, the prison has violated international human rights laws: Holding people indefinitely without charges or trials, subjecting them to severe conditions, including indefinite detention, prolonged solitary confinement, physical and psychological abuse. Most of the people still held at GITMO were imprisoned with no legal basis and never charged with a crime.
