VFP Jacksonville, along with Executive Director Michael McPhearson, recently participated in the #TakeEmDownJax History Walk that detailed the story of Jacksonville’s racial past.
Do you know the story of Jacksonville's racial past and the Confederate statues that commemorate it? If not, it's probably because you were never taught those lessons in school. Two local historians joined with #TakeEmDownJax to share the true story in a "History Revealed" walking tour on Oct. 6, from 1-3 p.m.
They joined forces with two local historians, Dr. Tim Gilmore and UNF student Monique Williamson Sampson to do what has not been done in our classrooms or civic institutions: Teach the citizens of Jacksonville, and their children, about the true story of Jacksonville's racial past.
