ANNOUNCEMENT FOR PARADE
Veterans For Peace along with Occupy Coachella Valley are marching today for peace and economic justice for all. We seek to abolish war and resolve conflicts with non-violence. Occupy supports more fairness and equal opportunity for the 99%. We have opposed the Sentinel Power Plant, illegal foreclosures, TPP and corporate greed. We demand the bankers and corporations be held accountable for their abuses.
Congratulations to Carolyn Krause who was recently featured in the Desert Sun.

AWARDS POLICY:
You Cannot Be A Beacon
Of Hope if Your
Light Does Not Shine
VFP Shines Our Light
On Unsung Heroes
With Awards
Veterans For Peace (VFP) has presented dozens of awards to deserving individuals, organizations and businesses for its entire ten year history. There are many categories of awards and an award is not presented in each category every year. For example VFP has not presented an award to a veteran’s health care worker for several years. The “Elected Official of the Year”, “Lifetime Achievement Award”, “Organization of the Year” and “Peace Day” awards are presented almost every year.
The “Colonel Lewis Millett Fickle Finger of Fate” award is presented with humor each Memorial Day. We strive to point negative people in the right direction. Our awards help create the change we all seek.
Award winners must have made a contribution for peace, justice, equality or service to veterans. Award winners can either work locally or around the world as in the case of our award to Army PFC Chelsea Manning. Award winners lead by example.
We attempt to have diversity among our award winners. A person or organization can only receive one award. We also try to honor individuals and organizations that will attract people to attend our awards ceremony.
There seems to be a lot of feuding in many of our organizations including the Democratic Party, Occupy and Move To Amend. Some people have hurt feelings and some activists get burned out. Often we can become disillusioned by all of the grumbling and personality clashes. Sometimes we can be harshly critical of the people we love the most. Many people work very hard for a long period of time and never seem to get recognized. Most of our award winners have not sought recognition but they do want to be treated fairly and with respect.
The cure for all of the bad things in our world is to do something good. VFP is a peace group and our award ceremonies promote harmony and unity. With our “Lifetime Achievement Award” we attempt to honor our elder heroes before we lose them. We feel that when we love our neighbors and thank them with an award that we are sending forth positive energy to soothe a battered world.
In war if you kill someone you receive a medal. In Veterans For Peace we honor the peacemakers with an award. Presenting awards makes us feel happy because we know it is better to give than to receive. Several of our award winners have also received awards from State Assembly Member Manuel Perez and Cathedral City Council Member Greg Pettis.
We value your participation by nominating someone for an award.
