About a dozen vets from then San Diego Veterans For Peace, associates and friends staged the first of a series of weekly demonstrations outside the General Atomics factory in Poway where the Predator Drone is made. Our goal is to educate the public concerning the lack of oversight being utilized by Homeland Security, police and others, who are now sending these drones over the US skies without any judicial oversight.
We received a phone call just before setting up at 4 PM from an employee inside the plant thanking us for being outside. While he believes in the technology of the drones themselves, he is terrified of the unwarranted application of them without proper oversight. He made our talking points:
Would you like a drone over your home ? Your church ? Your child’s school ? Sending it’s data back to ????
Yesterday, three San Diego TV networks stopped by and conducted interviews, KPBS did a great radio and written article about what we are doing, and we received very positive support from the passing motorists and even employees of General Atomics on their way home. We will be there again next Thursday, and each and every Thursday, from 4-6 PM, at the corner of Scripps-Poway Parkway and General Atomics Way, about 10 minutes off the I-15. We would love to have you join us, and feel free to make and bring along a sign if you can.
Dave Patterson, self-described Air Force hero, is our lead on this great outreach and can be reached at 760-207-9139 or dpatterson998@yahoo.com
