On Thursday, Oct. 1, the Golden Rule moved to Sausalito, where it will be docked at Schoonmaker Marina thru the weekend.
The week following, the crew will be back in San Francisco and ready for Fleet Week activities.
We have applied to be at the Hyde St. Pier (Nat'l. Maritime Museum) Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 6-8. We are cautiously optimistic, as they had earlier agreed to the Golden Rule being there on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10. However, their requirement that we not leave the dock to go out into the Bay on those days does not work fo us.
The intention is to sail into the Bay on Friday during the Parade of Ships, and again on Saturday, the big day. We want to be seen by thousands of people. We will be careful, however, not to do anything that would put the Golden Rule or her crew at risk, legally or otherwise.
The crew is coordinating with members of Veterans For Peace who will have a table at Pier 41 on Saturday, Oct. 10, with VFP and Golden Rule materials. We will also be talking with other peace activists about coordinating activities during Fleet Week.
To this end, Vetetans For Peace is organizing a public event next Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 7 pm, at the Veterans Building in San Francisco, on Van Ness at McAllister. There will be a presentation from the crew of the Golden Rule, an update on current antinuclear actions by Jackie Cabasso, and discussion about Fleet Week organizing, past and present.
Finally, crew members have been told that the crew may not have easy access to showers during Fleet Week in San Francisco. If anybody would like to invite a Golden Rule crew member or two home for a shower and a bite to eat, maybe even a bed for the night, please let Gerry Condon know.
Feel free to contact Gerry Condon anytime at 206-499-1220.
