Brothers and Sisters,
We can all be pleased. This year there are a total of 55 younger, post-Cold War veterans coming to the convention, many of whom were helped by your generosity in providing travel and housing assistance. Last year we had 38 younger vets at the convention, two of whom have since become outstanding and very active VFP National Board members. These veterans come with the intention of participating and taking leadership roles in moving VFP forward to meet the unique and unprecedented challenges of our time.
We all know that without these younger veterans, VFP cannot continue as an effective peace and justice organization dedicated to ending war in all its forms both at home and abroad.
While we can all be pleased at the turnout so far, there is some sadness as well. We still have a few post-Cold War veterans who would like to take part in the convention, but unfortunately we have run out of the funding you all have generously provided, including $5000 put into the pot by the national office.
I hate to disappoint these remaining veterans simply because they applied too late. I am wondering if we can once again dig deeper and come up with more funding to help everyone that wants to be at this convention to get there. If we can raise another $2000 that could provide assistance for the remaining few that we don't want to exclude.
