Al Bowman

Veteran for Peace (Chapter 57), Al Bowman, of Montgomery, VT, age 57, died unexpectedly while riding his bicycle on Sunday, June 29, 2003. He was born May 19, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan; served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam in 1968/69; and moved to Vermont in 1977, a move he spoke of as one of the best decisions of his life. He had a B.A. in philosophy from Oakland University and became a master electrician in 1991, an occupation he loved deeply. He was often referred to as "Doctor Electric". He was generous with his expert electrical services. Al taught without compensation at Green Mountain Technology, Hyde Park VT.

Al engaged people in conversation on a daily basis as to the insanity of war. Often seen with his truck and dog, Lucky, Al was an outspoken advocate, both on and off the job, on peace and social justice issues.

Al is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Sandy (Commons) Bowman, two stepchildren, his mother and many extended family members. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montgomery, a library trustee for the Montgomery Town Library, and a founding member of the Montgomery Cattlemen's Association.

In keeping with his wishes, Al was cremated and memorial services will be held Thursday, July 3, at 1 pm in Pratt Hall in Montgomery.
