appeal for redress

The Appeal For Redress

Many active duty, reserve, and guard service members are concerned about the war in Iraq and support the withdrawal of U.S. troops. The Appeal for Redress provides a way in which individual service members can appeal to their Congressional Representative and US Senators to urge an end to the U.S. military occupation. The first Appeal signatures were delivered to members of Congress on January 16, to coincide with at the time of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January 2007. Appeal for Redress will continue to collect signatures until all active duty, Guard, and active reserve soldiers are out of Iraq.

The wording of the Appeal for Redress is short and simple. It is patriotic and respectful in tone.

As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq . Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for U.S. troops to come home.

asbestos.com

Mesothelioma

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there are currently 25 million living individuals who have served in the United States' armed forces. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of these living veterans were exposed to toxic asbestos-containing materials during military service. Widely used by every military branch, asbestos was highly regarded for its heat resistance and fireproofing capabilities. In fact, asbestos was so valued that the military even mandated widespread usage before eventually phasing out the material in the 1970s.

Thankfully, there are organizational resources for veterans that can offer assistance with the complications associated with asbestos-related illness. Organizations such as Veterans Assistance Network (www.va-claim-help.com) help veterans wade through the often dizzying VA benefits system, free of charge.

stop the stop loss

Evan Knappenberger - Stop 'Stop Loss'

The Department of Defense policy of Stop-Loss (which is also known as Involuntary Extension) has been expanding, despite a memo penned earlier this year by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates to "minimize the effect of Stop-Loss." An official estimate of the current number of Stop-Lossed and Involuntarily Extended personnel has not been released by the Pentagon, but unofficial estimates put the number at approximately 80,000-- or roughly half the number of US troops in Iraq at any given time.

Evan Knappenberger, an Iraq veteran and founder of the Stop the Stop-Loss campaign, says that his investigation found that "in most units going back to Iraq for OIF 08-09, the average number of troops that have had their ETS [end time of service dates] extended was roughly 50%."

Raise Hell for Molly Ivins

"Raise Hell for Molly Ivins" is a grassroots campaign of ordinary Americans inspired by the late national newspaper columnist Molly Ivins. We hope to continue her legacy of speaking plain truth to power with wit and style.

We are appealing to all Americans to act and speak out to bring our troops home now. Wear a black ribbon at work. Call Congress.

Join our Pots & Pans protests on the 3rd Friday of every month. We invite all Americans, peace groups and veterans groups to join us as we mobilize the voting public to tell Congress "We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders." In 2006 we voted for a Congress that would bring the troops home and we will not be ignored!

A Nation Deceived

This website is dedicated to the education of the public. Our intention is to put into the hands of interested citizens such arguments and information as may be necessary to come to an informed conclusion concerning whether the current American administration committed felonies in the build-up to, and prosecution of, the invasion of Iraq. The named defendants are President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, They are charged, in the Court of Common Opinion, with having lied in their statements of intention prior to the war, their justifications for the war, and their explanation of the prosecution of the war, all under applicable sections of Title 18 of the United States Code.

Veterans Village

Drawing upon palliative treatments such as meditation techniques described by the veteran, Stephen Edwards, the goal of the Veterans’ Village is to create an oasis for healing. In the first phase, the Foundation will launch the building of the Veterans’ Village complete with living quarters, conference center, therapy center, recreation and art center, art gallery, restaurant, and a common dining area.

Upon completion of the building, the project will enter into its second phase as the Veterans’ Village opens its doors. Health and wellness activities such as exercise and massage, art therapy, and counseling will be provided by trained staff and volunteers for veterans.

Iraq Water Project

Since the Iraq Water Project sent it’s first delegation to Iraq in 2000, it has helped build four water treatment plants, repair two facilities, and now after years of occupation by American forces in this war, they are beginning a new phase of assistance in Iraq.

Rather than sinking all funds into one treatment plant that serves a single community, IWP will now spread out the work. The plan is to send small, hand-transportable sterilizer units into clinics and schools throughout Iraq, concentrating first and foremost on areas where U.S. forces have done the most damage, and where people are least likely to get help. With the help of an Iraqi coordinator in Amman, Jordan, they have already purchased and successfully delivered one such device to a hospital in al-Qaim.

Magnetic Peace

I wanted to do something for our troops and our country. This is why we created the “Bring our Troops Home” (B.O.T.H.) magnetic peace sign. As a former U.S. Navy, Vietnam-era, Submarine Veteran, and current U.S. Navy civil servant, I feel very deeply the personal sacrifice that our men and women in the military give everyday to our country; I see it in their faces, their uniforms and in our flag. We want to honor them by selling these magnetic peace signs as a fund raiser, to help support some web based support groups that stand behind our troops, and their families.

Blaming the Veteran:
The Politics of PTSD

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) became part of the American vocabulary after the Vietnam War as its affects on veterans became widely publicized. Now, a new generation of American Veterans are again victims of PTSD. This series explores the impact of politics on the funding, diagnosis and treatment of veterans suffering from PTSD. It examines the propaganda used to justify a reduction in benefits to veterans with PTSD and the effort to redirect blame for the ravages of war to the soldiers themselves.

Clear Path International

Clear Path International was formed by a group of friends with years of relief-work experience in Vietnam and other parts of Asia. In this way, Clear Path International makes a compassionate attempt to redress the destructive legacy of armed conflict and help families get back on track after their often devastating, if not deadly, accidents.
